“Hi, I’m Simon”

Living with mental illness sucks! It’s draining, stigmatising and scary. It impacts our wellbeing, our relationships, our focus and drive.

How do I know?

Because I’ve lived with mental illness for over 30 years. Depression, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Burnout are all challenges I’ve been working through over the years… and I still am!

I started Mindful Men in 2021 to share my story, and help normalise discussions about mental health. My aim is to encourage boys and men to open up, get vulnerable and deal with the issues that are troubling them.

My therapeutic approach is informed by my lived experience of mental illness, but also my life as a husband, father and bloke. I am a qualified Social Worker, and have 15 years experience in the Australian Public Service (APS); including working for the Department of Home Affairs, Australian Border Force, and more recently, the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) as a Senior Planner.

Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)

As a member of the AASW, I am committed to upholding the highest level of professionalism, including ongoing professional development and supervision. AASW registration number: 501992

Working With Me

So what would a therapy session with me look like? Well, that’s up to you! Do you just want to chat? Do you want to go for a walk? Do you want to tune into your values? Maybe you just want to vent?

Therapeutic interventions include:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focussed Brief Therapy (SFBT), Mindfulness, Skills Training (e.g. problem solving, stress management, etc.), and Psycho-Education.
